Riding excursion to Nuraghe Mereu

38 km, 6-8 hours ride

For those who wish to discover the center of the island, remote from elite beaches and discover the ancient land full of mysteries, secrets and legends offer horse riding excursion to Nuraghe Mereu.
The excursion takes place in 15 km from Orgosolo, a town famous for its murals. Starting point – Caserma Montes in Funtana Bona.

Experience level

I – Beginner or Novice Rider


This includes those who are learning to ride and those with limited riding experience.

II – Intermediate Rider


Confident and in control on a forward going horse at a steady canter in the open over even ground.

III – Professional Rider


Confident and in control on a forward going horse at a fast canter in the open over rough and variable ground. There are likely to be long stretches of fast riding and/or you will be riding in areas with potentially dangerous game.

Safety on the Trails

HORSEBACK RIDING SAFETY TIPS

  • The tourist must correspond to the category of the level of experience specified in the tour, excursion or hike.
  • Tourists along the way have to walk in single file, one or two, according to the order of the instructor, keeping a distance of 2-5 meters. È vietato:

  • Avvicinarsi a un cavallo da dietro.
  • Avvolgere le redini o la corda sul braccio, per il quale si tiene il cavallo.
  • Salire a cavallo che è legato
  • Mollare le redini dalle mani, mettendole sul collo o per terra.
  • Girare il cavallo all’indietro verso le persone vicine.
  • Trattare il cavallo in modo inadeguato: stuzzicandolo, minacciandolo, percuotendolo improvvisamente sul groppone, dando i colpi senza alcun motivo, spaventandolo. Punire il cavallo con crudeltà.
  • Montare il cavallo avendo un peso superiore ai 105 kg.
  • Montare il cavallo e andare da soli i bambini sotto l’età di 8 anni.
  • Salire a cavallo senza il kep
  • Scegliere da sé l’andatura e sorpassare l’istruttore.
  • Montare il cavallo o avvicinargli in stato di ebbrezza.
  • Salire a cavallo senza la polizza d’assicurazione valida per quest’attività
Per la violazione delle norme e delle azioni da parte dei turisti, causando danni materiali per l’inventario e la minaccia alla salute degli animali, l’istruttore ha il diritto di sospendere il percorso turistico.

Tourist during a trip is required:

  • Fulfill the requirements and guidelines of instructor and the group leader in all that relates to this trip
  • Watch for the safety of their personal property
  • Follow and respect the tour schedule. Don’t be late for the meeting appointments
  • Tactfully behave in relation to the locals and their culture, avoiding conflicts
  • Immediately tell to the group leader of indisposition or of any injury
  • Tourists whose state of health requires regular medication, should provide them themselves in advance for the whole trip, and inform about their disease the leader of the group and instructors.

Tourist while traveling is prohibited:

  • Vandalizing, littering and pollute the environment
  • Trying unknown berries and mushrooms, collect poisonous plants
  • Swiming in the local lakes, without the permission of the lrader of the group, jumping into the water from the rocks, swiming in areas of rapid flow or close to passing ship
  • Smoking in public places and throw the cigarette butts on the ground because of the great danger of ignition
  • Using drugs
  • Drinking alcohol excessively
